Home recycling isn’t difficult when you can throw every recyclable item into ONE container—and we provide that service! This service, known as single sort or single stream recycling, is available to residents within the city limits of Perham, Detroit Lakes, Frazee, Audubon, and Lake Park.

What Can Be Recycled?

Paper

Cartons*

  • Milk cartons/boxes
  • Soup cartons/boxes
  • Broth cartons/boxes
  • Wine cartons/boxes

Metal*

  • Food and beverage cans
  • Aluminum foil and trays
  • Pie tins and/or decorative tins

Cardboard

Any corrugated cardboard packaging, including:

  • Fruit boxes
  • Mailed cardboard boxes
  • Cereal boxes
  • And so much more

Plastic #1- #7**

  • Water, pop, and juice bottles
  • Milk and juice jugs
  • Ketchup, salad dressing, and other condiment bottles
  • Dishwashing and detergent jugs
  • Shampoo, soap, and lotion bottles
  • Yogurt, pudding, and fruit cups
  • Disposable cups and bowls
  • Margarine, cottage cheese, and other food containers
  • Produce, deli, and takeout containers

Glass (In Otter Tail County Only)

Any glass containers, including:

Fun fact: Glass can be recycled over and over without any quality loss.

Get Rid of the Stuff We Can’t Take

Most local grocery stores accept your plastic bags for recycling. Please do not throw your plastic bags into dumpsters at public recycling locations in either Becker County or Otter Tail County.

Becker County

Detroit Lakes, Osage, Lake Park, Frazee, etc.

You may dispose of your household hazard waste at the Becker County Transfer Station, which is located 3 miles North of Detroit Lakes on Hwy 59 and 1/2 mile West on Co. Rd 144.

Their acceptable household hazardous waste items include: paints, stains, varnishes, solvents, garden pesticides, flammable products, poisons, adhesives, aerosol cans, lawn care products, cleaners, automotive chemicals, motor oil.

OtterTail County

Pelican Rapids, Fergus Falls, Battle Lake, Bluffton, Perham, etc.

Otter Tail County residents may dispose of household hazardous waste free of charge through the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program, including auto fluids, home improvement items, and household items. All you need to do is deliver the hazardous items to the HHW facility, located at 1115 N Tower Rd, Fergus Falls, MN 56537. But first, see what’s acceptable.

Becker County

Detroit Lakes, Osage, Lake Park, Frazee, etc.

Recycle your scrap metal at the Becker County Transfer Station, which is located 3 miles North of Detroit Lakes on Hwy 59 and 1/2 mile West on Co. Rd 144.

OtterTail County

Pelican Rapids, Fergus Falls, Battle Lake, Bluffton, Perham, etc.

Give your scrap metal to any of these area businesses: Roadside Salvage (Erhard, MN), Sigelman Steel & Recycling (Fergus Falls, MN), Schaefer Auto (Menahga, MN), or Wadena Hide & Fur Co. (Wadena, MN). Give them a heads up that you’re wanting to recycle your scrap metal.

Becker County

Detroit Lakes, Osage, Lake Park, Frazee, etc.

Safely dispose of unneeded prescription and over-the-counter medication using the Becker County Take it to the Box program.

Just go to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, located at 925 Lake Ave, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501, and let them know you have something to dispose of. They will then unlock the door, and you can drop your medication into the disposal box.

OtterTail County

Pelican Rapids, Fergus Falls, Battle Lake, Bluffton, Perham, etc.

You can safely dispose of unneeded prescriptions and over-the-counter medication using the Otter Tail County Take it to the Box program, which has 6 locations across Otter Tail County, each with secure drop boxes.
